Today, I read two interesting pieces. One was an article in our major daily newspapers, Ilta-Sanomat, on under what conditions Finland would deploy troops to Ukraine. The other was a piece by chief foreign affairs commentator Gideon Rachman at the Financial Times, stating that President Trump would agree to withdraw troops from the Baltics, or even from further west. To be honest, Gideon’s piece was more of an attack against U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance.
These reports are like two ships passing in the night. Finland’s former role as a neutral party is changing to an aggressor, while the U.S. is seeking for detente in Europe. What does this all imply?
