There was an interesting piece in Politico on the talks between the U.S. and Iran on the expected retaliatory strikes of Iran to Israel. Like Tuomas detailed previously, the U.S. was active in the backchannels, which reportedly run through Switzerland, to ask the Iranian regime not to respond, if the U.S. retaliates the death of three U.S. service men in Syria by an Iranian proxy force, Islamic Resistance. The U.S. did strike several dozens of targets allegedly operated by Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), but several reports indicated that a pre-warning was given, and most of the personnel were evacuated before the strikes. Smoke and mirrors.
The controversy between effectively begging for Iran not to respond, when the U.S. “retaliates”, and giving pre-warnings to acting tough could not be larger. Obviously, acting tough is what is expected on the “greatest military power” in the world, defending her most important ally in an extremely important region, but the ‘courting’ of Iranian regime, before the U.S. retaliatory strikes, tells another story.
Now, the situation is much worse.
